I'm a middle-aged woman who's finding herself in a new place and entirely new situations. Seven years ago my employer ripped me from the comfort of my Texas home and moved me to the Washington, DC area. Then, in September of 2005, a new director of the organization fired me on her second day in office. After 31 years, I was "homeless." I took advantage of the opportunity and got the hell out of Dodge, ending up in Memphis, TN. There are a number of reasons why, not the least of which is I'm now a mere 2 hours from one of my sisters and a favorite nephew. I landed back in the South, happy to be "home" (well, sorta) and started looking for a job - assuming someone would snatch me up in a heartbeat, considering how wonderful I am and all. Hah! It took a long while, but I am once again among the gainfully employed, and I'm beginning to rebuild my life. Now that I'm not dealing with the daily madness of my former job, I'm a helluva lot less grumpy, but I still cling to my old identity. Who knows...I may need it again someday!
