Going to All Lengths

Was I asleep at the wheel when the clothing industry made a big announcement that they would no longer make ladies' slacks that go all the way to the ankle? I really regret that I wasn't paying attention, because it would have been helpful to stock up on long pants while they were still available so I could weather this fashion "trend" until it too passes.

I've been to several stores in the last couple of weeks, hoping to round out my summer wardrobe with some nice white slacks...and maybe a few other basic colors. Silly me.

There's pretty much NOTHING out there except "cropped" pants of various lengths. Knee-length...mid-calf length...lower-calf length. But nothing that goes all the way to the tops of my shoes.

Some of the women at work have started to wear these short pants and, frankly, I think it looks silly and way too casual for the office. These are women a good 20-30 years my junior and quite a few pounds lighter. If they look ridiculous on THEM, I shudder to think what they might look like on ME. These pants simply were not designed to be worn by women of a certain age and poundage.

I did find some real, sure-nuff long pants at Walmart, but the quality is suspect. And they didn't have white. DAMMIT! I want white slacks for summer!!!! I'm going to hold my breath until I get some!

....that didn't last long!

Hmmmm....time to get out ye olde sewing machine, I guess. Stay tuned for adventures in home couture.
