They'll Do it Every Time!

Maybe you're not old enough to remember, but once upon a time, there was a single-pane cartoon called "They'll Do it Every Time." The premise was to demonstrate those frustrating situations in life that live up to the title. A modern example might be people who leave an important message...via cellphone...and the thing is so broken up, all you can make out for sure is that it's something urgent. I'm constantly reminded of these old cartoons while trying to make my way through life.

Take this week, for instance. I was the second person in line entering a major thoroughfare from a fast food restaurant. We were turning right, so there was none of that cross-traffic frustration to contend with. Yet, the woman in front of me let THREE perfectly fine opportunities pass where she could have easily pulled into the traffic. But,noooo. What did she do? She waited until the oncoming traffic was so close that the driver on the highway had to hit his brakes and change lanes in order to avoid eating her bumper. And, of course...there was nobody in the traffic lane behind the oncoming driver. It would have been smooth sailing 2 seconds later.

They'll do it every time!
